CID

Installation

Download and install the CID desktop app on Windows, macOS or Linux.

CID is an Electron desktop app. All actual execution — reading your local git repo, running workflow steps on your computer, or connecting to a server over SSH/SFTP — happens on your own machine. The app talks to a small API only to store project config and run history.

Windows

  1. Download the latest Windows installer. The link always points at the newest version.
  2. Run the installer. It's an NSIS installer that adds a Start Menu entry and a desktop shortcut named CID.
  3. Launch CID. You'll see a short loading spinner while it checks for a saved session, then the Sign in screen.

macOS

  1. Download the disk image for your Mac: Apple Silicon (M1 and newer) or Intel. Not sure? Apple menu → About This Mac shows Chip: Apple M… or Processor: Intel.
  2. Open the .dmg and drag CID into Applications.
  3. Open CID from Applications. The first time, macOS says it can't verify the app — click Done, then go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway next to CID. You only need to do this once.

macOS asks because CID isn't notarized by Apple yet, not because anything is wrong with it. If you prefer the terminal, xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/CID.app does the same as Open Anyway. On macOS, workflows that run on this computer use Bash with your normal shell PATH, so Homebrew tools like node and git work.

Linux (Debian, Ubuntu and derivatives)

  1. Download the latest .deb package (64-bit Intel/AMD, amd64).
  2. Install it with apt, which also pulls in the libraries it needs:
Terminal
$ sudo apt install ./cid_*_amd64.deb

Then open CID from your app menu, or run cid in a terminal. To remove it later: sudo apt remove cid.

On Linux, workflows that run on this computer use Bash. The package is for 64-bit Intel/AMD machines; ARM computers (like a Raspberry Pi) and Fedora/RPM-based systems aren't supported yet.

Other versions

Need an older version, or want to see what changed? The changelog lists every release with its notes and lets you download any of them. The download buttons on the site detect your system and offer the right file.

What's next

If this is your first time here, continue to Create your account — sign-up happens on the website, not inside the app.

Advanced: pointing the app at a different API

By default CID-app talks to the hosted API. If you're self-hosting CID-api, set the API_URL environment variable before launching the app (this is a developer/self-hoster setting, not exposed in the UI).

.env
API_URL=https://your-cid-api.example.com
